For better or worse, it sounds like we’re getting the option to dislike posts on our Facebook stream. On September 15, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO announced during his companies question and answer period that Facebook will be creating a dislike button, or sorts. According to Yahoo Tech, Mark stated that “I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years, Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”
He also stated that Facebook did not want to copy or use Reddit’s ideas’ which “allows users to vote stories up or down based on content.” But rather the dislike button will be for sad posts such as deaths, crises, and other negative everyday life situations faced by its users. Yahoo Tech reported that’s Mr. Zuckerberg had also shared “that it’s been in the development stages for some time. The company previously decided against building the button — despite complaints from users — because it didn’t want to evoke negative reactions.”
